A note from the meeting organizers: We recommend booking your hotel room as soon as possible—June is peak tourist season, and we expect our blocks of discounted rooms (equivalent to the federal per diem rate) to fill up fast.
Below is information on the Hilton Anchorage, Quality Suites Historic Downtown, and several other hotels in downtown Anchorage that have reasonable rates and are within easy walking distance of the venues for the meeting (Egan Center, Dena’ina Center, and Anchorage Museum). The hotels are surrounded by restaurants, brew pubs, galleries, an outdoor open-air market (open on weekends), and tons of gift shops. You can also easily walk to the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail, where you can walk or bike along the coastal marshes and mudflats for spectacular views of mountains, Cook Inlet, and nesting and early-staging birds.
Although there is no sales tax in Anchorage, there is a room tax (12%) at all hotels. There are several public and private parking garages, parking lots, and on-street metered parking, if you decide to rent a car. A few hotels provide free parking, but others charge up to $30 per day for valet parking, so please take these extra costs into consideration when you book your accommodations. There are also opportunities to rent bicycles downtown.
The AOS has reserved a block of rooms at the Hilton Anchorage, our conference hotel, centrally located in downtown Anchorage. To receive group rates, reservations should be made no later than June 1, 2019, but sooner is advised because of the busy tourist season. The 2019 federal government per diem rate for Anchorage will apply; as a sample, the 2018 rates are as follows (plus 12% room tax):
Hilton Anchorage Cancellation Policy: Any reservations not cancelled 72 hours prior to arrival date of reservation, will be charged one night’s room and tax. Checks and major credit cards are acceptable to establish prepayment. All credit cards used to prepay will be charged immediately. The Hilton Anchorage will deduct any collected non-refundable prepayment fees from the amount you may owe as performance or cancellation damages.
The hotel has a restaurant and separate bar, grab-and-go coffee station, business center, fitness center, small pool, gift shop, and other amenities. Rates for guest rooms in the AOS room block include complimentary basic wireless internet. Valet parking is $30 per day.
