Trip Description: Enjoy the Chugach Mountains up close while hiking ~3 miles from treeline to subalpine habitats and possibly up into the alpine in Anchorage’s backyard, Chugach State Park (495,000 acres). Subalpine meadows and alpine tundra promise to be in full bloom, with wide-open views of the surrounding mountain ranges (Alaska, Aleutian, Kenai, Talkeetna, maybe even Denali), Cook Inlet, and downtown Anchorage. If you’re up to it you can hike to the top of Alaska’s most summited mountain, Flat Top (moderately strenuous 1.5 mile, 1,350’ ascent), or you can simply stroll along a mountain valley (easy hike). Take your pick, it’s a beautiful hike either way.
