Trip 19.  Chugach State Park: Williwaw Lakes

Date: Saturday, 29 June

Start and end times: 7:00 am–7:00 pm (full day of hiking)

Cost: AOS registration is $45 per person (covers van, gas, park entrance fee).

Maximum participants: 14

Meals: Bring your own lunch, water, and snacks if desired; some snacks provided

Trip Description: We’ll spend a full day hiking ~13 miles in Chugach State Park to Williwaw Lakes, a series of 9 alpine lakes framed by the Chugach Mountains. Take in some beautiful alpine scenery and the tundra in full bloom while looking for alpine birds and mammals. Expect a mixture of easy to moderately strenuous hiking, including one short climb and one short but steep descent down a scree slope.

Recommended Gear and Cautions: Trail-running shoes or light hiking boots. Light rain gear and wind protection. Insulated jacket, hat, and light gloves. Mosquito repellent. Hiking poles optional. Bring a lunch and plenty of snacks and water. Look out for bears and moose.
