Meeting Location
The 2019 AOS conference will be held in downtown Anchorage, Alaska, 24–28 June. Anchorage is the largest city in Alaska, with a population of about 300,000 people, nestled along the shore of Cook Inlet and at the base of the Chugach Mountains. Downtown is filled with restaurants, brew pubs, galleries, an outdoor open-air market (open on weekends), and tons of gift shops. You can easily walk to the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail, where you can hike or bike along the coastal marshes and mudflats for spectacular views of the Alaska Range, Cook Inlet, and nesting and early-staging birds. There is a large network of bike trails throughout the city, and the immense Chugach State Park, with its many hiking trails, forms a magnificent backdrop to the cityscape.

Closing Event
Our closing event will feature a fun, casual evening at the Anchorage Museum. Come celebrate new and renewed connections with colleagues! We will have food, drink, music, and maybe even storytelling in the main atrium, plus we’ll be able to tinker in the Spark!Lab, experiment in the hands-on Discovery Center, and explore amazing, indigenous Alaskan artifacts in the Smithsonian Arctic Studies Center. We’ll even have firepits blazing on the outside terrace.
